6. Porous Silicon Microbioreactors - Applications and Technology
Sammanfattning : Microfluidic systems have become one of the most interesting fields in the research of chemical analysis. Miniaturized systems exhibit numerous practical advantages when compared with traditional batch-scale synthesis such as lower sample volumes, increased control of the reactions and higher sample throughput. 7. Anaerobic Treatment of Agricultural Residues and Wastewater - Application of High-Rate Reactors
Sammanfattning : The production of methane via anaerobic digestion of agricultural residues and industrial wastewater would benefit society by providing a clean fuel from renewable feedstocks. This would reduce the use of fossil-fuel-derived energy and reduce environmental impact, including global warming and pollution. LÄS MER
8. Characterisation of starch: development of analytical methods
Sammanfattning : Starch, comprised of amylose and amylopectin, is a very complex biopolymer. Different methods are therefore needed for the investigation of the molecular structures of amylose and amylopectin. In this thesis analytical methods have been developed and various techniques were combined for the characterisation of starch. LÄS MER
9. Lipase-Catalysed Lipid Modifications in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide
Sammanfattning : The production of ethyl esters (EE) from ethanol and cod-liver oil by an immobilised lipase in supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) is described. This reaction results in a complex mixture of lipid components consisting of triglycerides, diglycerides, monoglycerides and ethyl esters. LÄS MER
10. SOUnd-DRIven BIOtechnology
Sammanfattning : Ultrasound has been vastly applied in different areas such as medical imaging and the food industry, but not much attempt has been made to investigate its influence on microorganisms and its potential to be applied in microbial biotechnology. Previous studies show the potential of acoustic waves to increase biomass yield, production of secondary metabolites and enhanced enzyme-catalyzed reactions, probably due to improved mass transfer and cell retention.
