  1. 6. Improved environmental assessment in the development of wood-based products: Capturing impacts of forestry and uncertainties of future product systems

    Författare :Gustav A Sandin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wood; water use; scenario modelling; land use; impact assessment; product development; environmental assessment; end-of-life modelling; sustainability assessment; forestry;

    Sammanfattning : The prospect of reducing environmental impacts is a key driver for the development of new wood-based products. But as wood-based products are not necessarily environmentally superior to non-wood alternatives, there is a need to assess the environmental impact of the product and guide the development process. 2. 7. Health effects of heatwaves : short and long term predictions

    Författare :Christofer Åström; Bertil Forsberg; Kristie L. Ebi; Scott Sheridan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heatwave; health impact assessment; early warning system; mortality; morbidity; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Climate change is defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as changes in the state of the climate associated with changes in the mean and/or the variability of its properties. Climate change will affect temperatures both as an increase in mean temperature as well as changes in the frequency of temperature extremes. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Chemical substitution with a life cycle perspective: The case of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in durable water repellents

    Författare :Hanna Holmquist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LCIA; CAA; LCA; PFAS; DWR;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to support the process of substitution of side-chain fluorinated polymers in durable water repellents (DWRs), that give rise to emissions of hazardous per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). The focus was on: i) the provision of improved decision support regarding the environmental and human health performance of alternatives, and ii) public readiness for substitution and what messages can motivate consumers to voluntary substitution. 4. 9. Essays in Environmental Management and Economics: Public Health, Risk and Strategic Environmental Assessment

    Författare :Daniel Slunge; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; risk; risk perception; public health; strategic environmental assessment; institutions; governance; willingness to pay; protective behaviour; vector-borne diseases; ticks; TBE; tick-borne encephalitis; Lyme borreliosis; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Current large-scale environmental and climate change leads to the emergence of new and potentially dramatic risks for individuals and societies. The welfare costs associated with these risks largely depend on our ability to take them into account in decision-making and adapt to new circumstances. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Assessing the health consequences of deficiencies in water distribution networks: a basis for future network management

    Författare :Victor Vinas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; QMRA; risk management; distribution network; microbial risk; epidemiological studies;

    Sammanfattning : Drinking water distribution networks are susceptible to incidents that may contaminate the drinking water being served to the population. Five major risks that can impact negatively the health of consumers have been identified by a literature study: intrusion, cross-connections and backflows, unhygienic repairs or maintenance works, inadequate management of storage reservoirs and biofilms.
