  1. 26. Functional genomics of the Baltic Sea cyanobacterium Nodularia spumigena in relation to nitrogen fixation, heterocyst differentiation and toxin production

    Författare :Simina Vintila; Rehab El-Shehawy; Peter Lindblad; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cyanobacteria; Nodularia; nitrogen fixation; heterocyst; nitrogenase; ammonium; phosphate; nodularin; Baltic Sea; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nodularia spumigena is a filamentous, heterocystous cyanobacterium that dominates the annual, toxic cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea. The blooms are believed to have increased in recent years, due to eutrophication by phosphate and/or nitrogen. Toxicity of these blooms is well-documented and attributed to the hepatotoxin nodularin. 2. 27. Modulation of the calcium-force relationship in smooth muscle by polyamines and metabolic inhibition

    Författare :Karl Swärd; Cellulär biomekanik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolic inhibition; polyamines; excitation-contraction coupling; smooth muscle; intracellular calcium; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The relationship between intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) and force in smooth muscle was investigated in receptor-coupled permeabilized preparations and by fluorimetry of the calcium indicator Fura 2 in intact smooth muscle. The time integral of spontaneous [Ca2+]i transients in the intact rat portal vein was decreased by cyanide and, during tonic contraction, cyanide reduced force without changing [Ca2+]i implying metabolic sensitivity of both membrane excitation and [Ca2+]i - activation of the contractile proteins. 3. 28. Physiological Engineering of Xylose Utilisation by Recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Nina Quednau Meinander; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein burden; physiology; fed-batch fermentation; chemostat; recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae; ethanol; xylose; xylitol; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Xylitol production by recombinant, XYL1-expressing Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated in fed-batch fermentation using different cosubstrates for growth, and generation of reduced cofactors and maintenance energy. Xylose was converted into xylitol with 1:1 yield. LÄS MER

  4. 29. cAMP-Regulated Cell Proliferation in Brown Preadipocytes

    Författare :Yanling Wang; Jan Nedergaard; Maria Jesus Obregon; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : As a prototypical second messenger, cAMP is involved in the regulation of multiple cell functions. cAMP has a well established inhibitory effect on cell proliferation in smooth muscle and epithelial cell types. However, there is accumulating evidence also for stimulatory effect on proliferation, mainly in endocrine cell types. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Skeletal muscle fiber types in man : With special reference to anabolic signaling and mitochondrial bioenergetics

    Författare :Sebastian Edman; William Apro; Filip J Larsen; Abram Katz; Leigh Breen; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mTORC1; THRIFTY; fiber type identification; muscle growth; aging; sarcopenia; mitochondrial function; oxphos; metabolism; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Human skeletal muscle consists of a mixture of slow-twitch (type I) and fast-twitch (type II) fibers. The type I fibers are endurance-oriented, with a metabolic system and infrastructure that supports aerobic metabolism. LÄS MER
