11. Localization of lipoprotein lipase in mouse pancreas, kidney and placenta : impact of metabolic disturbances on cellular distribution and activity regulation
Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the key enzyme for metabolism of triglycerides in plasma lipoproteins. In recent years many new facts about the enzyme and its regulation have been uncovered. The endothelial membrane protein GPIHBP1 translocates LPL through endothelial cells and holds the enzyme in place at the luminal side of the capillary endothelium. LÄS MER
12. The role of phosphodiesterase 3B in energy metabolism
Sammanfattning : Energy metabolism at the level of any particular tissue is tightly regulated by hormones, neurotransmitters and cytokines in order to maintain overall energy homeostasis. Any dysfunctions in energy metabolism may lead to more or less severe consequences, with obesity and type 2 diabetes being the most prevalent ones. LÄS MER
13. Phenotypic modulation of vascular smooth muscle in organ culture
Sammanfattning : Contraction of blood vessels for the regulation of blood flow and pressure is dependent on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) located in the medial layer of the vascular wall. Adult, differentiated VSMC have a well developed contractile system and a low rate of proliferation. LÄS MER
14. Regulation of Elovl and fatty acid metabolism
Sammanfattning : Fatty acids are important regulators in the control of mammalian energy homeostasis. They are ingested in the diet but a significant amount are also endogenously produced by de novo lipogenesis. LÄS MER
15. Fermentation of lignocellulosic material : a study on bacterial contamination and yeast physiology
Sammanfattning : Progressive depletion of oil and conventional fossil fuels, an increased energy demand and an increased struggle for national energy security has led to the development of alternative biobased fuels, bioethanol being one of them. Bioethanol can be made from many different raw materials, and based upon this are classified as 1st generation and 2nd generation. LÄS MER
