1. Early Determination of Arbitral Jurisdiction : Balancing efficacy, efficiency, and legitimacy of arbitration
Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines the timing of judicial determination of jurisdictional disputes in the presence of an arbitration agreement. The analysis focuses on Article 8(1) of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration (and Article II(3) of the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards). 2. In Virtue Of : Determination, Dependence, and Metaphysically Opaque Grounding
Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates grounding, the relation of non-causal determination whereby one fact obtains in virtue of some other fact or facts. Although considerations of grounding have been central throughout Western philosophy, the last 15-20 years have seen a renaissance of systematic work on grounding in analytic philosophy. LÄS MER
3. Metallicity determination of M dwarfs
Sammanfattning : M dwarfs constitute around 70% of all stars in the local Galaxy. Their multitude together with their long main-sequence lifetimes make them important for studies of global properties of the Galaxy such as the initial mass function or the structure and kinematics of stellar populations. 4. Fluorescence studies of complex systems : organisation of biomolecules
Sammanfattning : The homo and hetero dimerisation of two spectroscopically different chromophores were studied, namely: 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diazas-indacene (g-BODIPY) and its 5-styryl-derivative (r-BODIPY). Various spectroscopic properties of the r-BODIPY in different common solvents were determined. LÄS MER
5. Structure determination of beam sensitive crystals by rotation electron diffraction : the impact of sample cooling
Sammanfattning : Electron crystallography is complementary to X-ray crystallography. Single crystal X-ray diffraction requires the size of a crystal to be larger than about 5 × 5 × 5 μm3 while a TEM allows a million times smaller crystals being studied. This advantage of electron crystallography has been used to solve new structures of small crystals. LÄS MER
