1. Effects of some ward routines on behavioural and physiological adaptation to breast-feeding
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study how early breast-feeding would be influenced by pethidine given during labour and by an emergency Caesarean section. Eighteen mother-infant pairs which were exposed and 26 which were not exposed to pethidine during labour were observed the first two hours after birth. LÄS MER
2. Collagenous colitis : A study of epidemiology, etiology, clinical features and treatment
Sammanfattning : Collagenous colitis (CC) is characterised clinically by chronic watery diarrhoea and histopathologically by an increased submucosal collagen layer. An epidemiologic study of CC during 1984 to 1993 showed a female:male ratio of 9:1. The median age at diagnosis was 64 (28-78) years. The prevalence was 15. LÄS MER
3. The Potential of b-value Variations as Earthquake Precursors for Small and Large Events
Sammanfattning : The potential of variations of b-values in the G-R relation, logN=a-bM as earthquake precursors for small events (rockbursts) in Zinkgruvan mine, Sweden and for tectonic (large) earthquakes in the Andaman-Sumatra region were investigated. The temporal frequency-magnitude distribution, b(t), of rockbursts in Zinkgruvan mine was examined using high quality data recorded during the period November 1996 to April 2004 with magnitude ranges from Mw= -2. 4. Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a balloon catheter : experimental and clinical evaluation of a new form of treatment for menorrhagia
Sammanfattning : Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a silicone balloon catheter is a new form of treatment for menorrhagia aimed at reducing menstrual blood loss. The purpose of the present work was to study, experimentally, the thermal effects on and the thermal conductivity of uterine tissue, to obtain a basis for the estimation of optimal treatment conditions by means of numerical analyses using a computer simulation model, to elucidate possible problems which may arise during the procedure, to evaluate how the patients tolerated this treatment and to judge which patients were suitable for this form of treatment and, finally, to study the uterine cavity after treatment and the long-term results of treatment. 5. Självstyre eller samförvaltning? : problem och möjligheter utifrån en studie av världsarvet Laponia
Sammanfattning : Because of its importance for indigenous biodiversity and the local Sami culture, the Laponian area, in the north of Sweden, was declared a World Heritage Site Area by the UN organization UNESCO in 1996. Most of the area is protected because it encompasses national parks and nature reserves and is state owned, and, thus, managed by the County Administrative Board. LÄS MER
