  1. 1. Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a balloon catheter : experimental and clinical evaluation of a new form of treatment for menorrhagia

    Författare :Britt Friberg; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrologi; Obstetrik; gynekologi; sexuality; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; Obstetrics; balloon catheter; thermal coagulation; Menorrhagia; endometrial destruction; saline infusion sonography; uterine thermal conductivity; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : Thermal endometrial destruction by means of a silicone balloon catheter is a new form of treatment for menorrhagia aimed at reducing menstrual blood loss. The purpose of the present work was to study, experimentally, the thermal effects on and the thermal conductivity of uterine tissue, to obtain a basis for the estimation of optimal treatment conditions by means of numerical analyses using a computer simulation model, to elucidate possible problems which may arise during the procedure, to evaluate how the patients tolerated this treatment and to judge which patients were suitable for this form of treatment and, finally, to study the uterine cavity after treatment and the long-term results of treatment. 2. 2. Physical Aspects of Thermotherapy - A study of heat transport with a view to treatment optimisation

    Författare :Johan Olsrud; Sektion V; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; magnetic resonance; non-invasive; temperature; coagulation; prostatic; menorrhagia; liver tumour; finite element method FEM ; thermal conductivity; intracavitary; interstitial; laser; Thermotherapy; hyperthermia; MRI; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Olsrud;

    Sammanfattning : Local treatment with the aim to destruct tissue by heating (thermotherapy) may in some cases be an alternative or complement to surgical methods, and has gained increased interest during the last decade. The major advantage of these, often minimally-invasive methods, is that the disease can be controlled with reduced treatment trauma and complications. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Shapeable cellulosic materials

    Författare :Malin Brodin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; composite; polyethylene; coagulation; material properties; cellulose ester; interactions; gel; cellulose; ionic liquid;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACTA palette of materials has been developed by the oil and gas sector. The expected depletion of fossil resources and the stress on the climate from burning them has, however, turned the world’s attention to renewable resources. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Preparation and Evaluation of New Nanoporous Silica Materials for Molecular Filtration and for Core Materials in Vacuum Insulation Panels

    Författare :Ebenezer Twumasi Afriyie; Folke Björk; Christer Sjöström; Kjartan Gudmundsson; Per Jostein Hovde; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adsorbents; activated carbon; MgCa-silica; carbon-silica composite; characterization; porous parameters; molecular filtration; thermal conductivity; thermal insulation;

    Sammanfattning : Nanoporous materials for gas purification and thermal insulation have been studied and developed for application in many areas. It is known that a single adsorbent may not adequately control multiple contaminants. Further the utilization of nanoporous material as thermal insulator in building applications is limited due to high cost. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Medical Laser-Induced Thermotherapy - Models and Applications

    Författare :Christian Sturesson; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; blood perfusion; mathematical modelling; liver tumours; Atomic and molecular physics; benign prostatic hyperplasia; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Sturesson; hyperthermia; Coagulation; tissue optical properties;

    Sammanfattning : Heat has long been utilised as a therapeutic tool in medicine. Laser-induced thermotherapy aims at achieving the local destruction of lesions, relying on the conversion of the light absorbed by the tissue into heat. In interstitial laser-induced thermotherapy, light is focused into thin optical fibres, which are placed deep into the tumour mass. LÄS MER
