11. Initiation of Mammalian Mitochondrial DNA Replication
Sammanfattning : Mitochondria produce most of the adenosine triphosphate required in a eukaryotic cell and they contain their own genome. The mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is a double stranded circular molecule that codes for proteins required for cellular respiration and RNA molecules involved in translation of these proteins. LÄS MER
12. Microfluidic bead-based methods for DNA analysis
Sammanfattning : With the completion of the human genome sequencing project, attention is currently shifting toward understanding how genetic variation, such as single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), leads to disease. To identify, understand, and control biological mechanisms of living organisms, the enormous amounts of accumulated sequence information must be coupled to faster, cheaper, and more powerful technologies for DNA, RNA, and protein analysis. 13. Exploring and predicting DNA template dependent variation in transcription
Sammanfattning : Reliable transmission of information from DNA to proteins is a pre-requisite for all life, where substitution errors in the polypeptide chain may arise from transcription, aminoacylation of tRNAs or translation. The fidelity control mechanisms in transcription have nevertheless received little attention, based on the assumption that the transcriptional error is masked by the translational error. LÄS MER
14. A study of DNA interactive proteins and their origin from thermophilic Siphoviridae phages
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the results of studies on the amino acid sequence, three-dimensional structure, and activities of two types of DNA-interactive proteins: Holliday Junction resolving enzyme (represented by Hjc_15-6 isolated from phage Tth15-6) and DNA Polymerase I (represented by PolI_G20c, isolated from phage G20c), including studies on their homologous counterparts. As these proteins originate from two different, but related phages that infect Thermus thermophilus, the studies also include the evolutionary relationship between these and other related phages at genomic level. 15. Molecular insights into mitochondrial DNA replication
Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are organelles found in eukaryotic cells. These organelles produce most of the adenosine triphosphate that cells use as a source of energy. Mitochondria contain their own genomic material, a circular DNA genome (mtDNA) that encodes subunits of the respiratory chain complexes and RNA components needed for mitochondrial translation. LÄS MER
