    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate cervical physiological changes by three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound during pregnancy and to investigate the ability of 3D power Doppler to predict time to spontaneous and induced delivery in prolonged pregnancy. The thesis is based on five studies: reproducibility of cervical measurements by 3D power Doppler ultrasound (study I), reference data representative normal findings of the cervix assessed by 3D ultrasound during pregnancy (studies II, III) and the ability of 3D power Doppler to predict time to spontaneous and induced delivery in prolonged pregnancy. 2. 2. Adenocarcinoma of the cervix uteri : methods to improve diagnostics : biological markers and HPV testing

    Författare :Susanne Friederike Müller; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cervical adenocarcinoma (ADC) represents about 20% of invasive cervical cancers. Implementation of screening programs that have led to a decrease in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) has only had a limited preventive effect on adenocarcinoma as the incidence of ADC, especially among younger women, has steadily increased in recent decades. 3. 3. Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and their importance for the handling of precancerous lesions of the cervix uteri

    Författare :Keng-Ling Chua; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The development of cervical carcinoma, in a vast majority of cases, is closely related to infections with certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). The virus is supposed to exert its oncogenic effect mainly through interference with two proteins that are responsible for growth arrest as a response to DNA damage. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of human papillomavirus in adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix

    Författare :Sonia Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cervix; Adenocarcinoma; HPV; Prevalence; Age; PCR; DNA-sequencing; p53; HPV16 - E6 gene - polymorphism;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cervical carcinoma is the third most common malignant disease in women worldwide. The absolute frequency of adenocarcinoma of cervix uteri has increased during the last decade and accounts for about 15-20% of invasive cervical cancers. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Changes in human uterine innervation in term pregnancy and labor occurence and roles of neurotrophins and TRPV1

    Författare :Berith Karlsson Tingåker; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Uterus; corpus uteri; cervix uteri; pregnancy; labor pain; neurotrophins; NGF; TRPV1; sensory corpuscles; human.;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Cervical ripening, is a prerequisite for successful labor, which is often very painful and involves an inflammatory reaction. However, little is presently known con-cerning nerve-related changes in the human uterus during labor and the fundamental hy-pothesis tested here was that labor pain emanates primarily from the cervix uteri.
