7. Ribosomal proteins L5 and L15 : Functional characterisation of important features, in vivo
Sammanfattning : Protein synthesis is a highly regulated and energy consuming process, during which a large ribonucleoprotein particle called the ribosome, synthesizes new proteins. The eukaryotic ribosome consists of two unequal subunits called: small and large subunits. Both subunits are composed of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and ribosomal proteins (r-proteins). LÄS MER
8. Tropomyosin in Normal and Malignant Cells and the Action of Picropodophyllin on the Microfilament and Microtubule Systems
Sammanfattning : Cell motility is a fundamental process, enabling cells to migrate, for instance during embryogenesis, tissue repair and defense. Force is generated by two protein systems, which also participate in cell proliferation, control macromolecular and organelle distribution and determine the fine structure of the cell interior. 9. Molecular And Cellular Networks in Critical Illness Associated Muscle Weakness : Skeletal Muscle Proteostasis in the Intensive Care Unit
Sammanfattning : Critical illness associated muscle weakness and muscle dysfunction in intensive care unit (ICU) patients lead to severe morbidity and mortality as well as significant adverse effect on quality of life. Immobilization, mechanical ventilation, neuromuscular blocking agents, corticosteroids, and sepsis have been implicated as important risk factors, but the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms remain unclear. 10. Modeling Neural Stem Cell and Glioma Biology
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on neural stem cell (NSC) and glioma biology. I discuss how NSCs interact with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins in the stem cell niche, and investigate the consequences of deregulated Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) signaling for embryonic NSCs in transgenic mice.
