6. Long term aspects of defunctioning stoma following low anterior resection for rectal cancer
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, more than 2 000 individuals are diagnosed with rectal cancer each year. Surgery is the main curative treatment, and involves removal of the tumor with the surrounding mesorectum in adefined anatomical plane. Intestinal continuity is restored by anastomosing the colon to the rectalstump at the pelvic floor. LÄS MER
7. Pathophysiological mechanisms involved in flap ischemia and its treatment : an experimental study with emphasis on the effects of calcitonin gene-related peptide and spinal cord stimulation on ischemia and manipulation of microcirculation in flaps
Sammanfattning : Flap surgery and microsurgery have expanded the therapeutic options of reconstructive surgery. Partial or total flap necrosis, due to circulatory and metabolic events, is, however, still a significant problem for the plastic surgeon. LÄS MER
8. Experimental Colonic Obstruction and Anastomotic Healing
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant diseases world-wide. Most patients can be diagnosed, staged and treated by surgery in an elective setting. However, about one fifth of the patients will have an emergency presentation and in most cases due to malignant obstruction of the left colon. LÄS MER
9. Systemic and Local Inflammatory Mediator Response to Major Surgery
Sammanfattning : Cell-signalling via cytokines modulates the local response to surgical trauma, directs the immunologic response and initiates the healing process. Surgical trauma induces a systemic cytokine response and a down-regulation of the antigen presentation capacity of monocytes (HLA-DR expression), which is associated with a poor prognosis if pronounced. 10. Distensibility in Arteries, Arterioles and Veins in Humans : Adaptation to Intermittent or Prolonged Change in Regional Intravascular Pressure
Sammanfattning : The present series of in vivo experiments in healthy subjects, were performed to investigate wall stiffness in peripheral vessels and how this modality adapts to iterative increments or sustained reductions in local intravascular pressures. Vascular stiffness was measured as changes in arterial and venous diameters, and in arterial flow, during graded increments in distending pressures in the vasculature of an arm or a lower leg. LÄS MER
