  1. 1. Protease Activity, Inhibition and Ligand Interaction Analysis : Developments and Applications for Drug Discovery

    Författare :Thomas Gossas; Helena Danielson; Mikael Widersten; Alexander Wlodawer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; proteases; kinetics; biosensors; inhibition; calcium; drug discovery; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The present study has focused on characterising protease-ligand interactions in the context of drug discovery. The proteases that have been studied are human matrix metallopeptidase 12 (MMP-12), HIV-protease and Hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3/NS4A protease. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular Mechanisms of Action of Histidine-rich Glycoprotein in Angiogenesis Inhibition

    Författare :Chunsik Lee; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Jan Palmblad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cell and molecular biology; anti-angiogenesis; angiogenesis inhibitor; endothelial cell; histidine-rich glycoprotein; focal adhesion; tumor-associated macrophages; VEGF; MMP; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, de novo synthesis of blood vessels from the pre-existing vasculature, is required both during embryonic development and in pathophysiological conditions. In particular, tumor growth needs new capillary vessels in order to both deliver oxygen and nutrients and to remove toxin and metabolites. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Inflammation and neuroprotective strategies in the immature brain after hypoxic-ischemic brain injury

    Författare :Pernilla Svedin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia-ischemia; LPS; immature; brain; inflammation; NAC; melatonin; G-2mPE; MMP-9; MMP-12;

    Sammanfattning : Perinatal brain injury, as a result of hypoxia-ischemia (HI) or infection/HI, is a major cause of acute mortality and neurological morbidity in infants and children. The mechanisms of perinatal HI are not fully understood, which makes it difficult to find effective treatment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Experimental inhibition of proliferative retinopathy

    Författare :Sylvia Almlöf Sarman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Retinal ischemic diseases like retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), diabetic retinopathy (DRP) and retinal vein occlusion, with preretinal neovascularization (angiogenesis) that may lead to vitreous hemorrhages and retinal detachment with subsequent vision loss and blindness is a global health problem. By analyzing the potential role of molecules acting at different levels of the angiogenic cascade the presented studies aimed to widen our understanding of retinal ischemic diseases on a molecular, cellular and morphologic level.     Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; leukocyte motility; dendritic cell; amoeboid migration; host-parasite interactions; podosome; integrin; ITGB1; ECM; MAT; TIMP; MMP; MAPK; Erk; RTK; HGFR; Ras; calcium; VDCC; VGCC; calmodulin; CaMkII; CD63; FAK; SRC; Pi3k; hypermigration; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects all warm-blooded vertebrates including one third of the global human population. While infection is typically asymptomatic in healthy human hosts, reactivated and acute infection in immunosuppressed or immunecompromised individuals can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis After ingestion, the parasite crosses the intestinal epithelium and rapidly achieves systemic dissemination, ultimately establishing chronic infection in the brain.
