6. Symplectic Embeddings and results in TDA
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a collection of work under the theme of “applied topology." The linking idea behind seemingly disjoint fields is the existence of a filtration that one uses to study a space. In turn, given the ubiquitous nature of filtrations, applications range from theoretical fields (e.g. LÄS MER
7. Cyanobacteria in symbiosis with plants : Protein patterns and regulatory mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Cyanobacteria belonging to the heterocystous genus Nostoc, capable of oxygenic photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation via the enzyme nitrogenase, may form symbiotic associations with plants. In these associations most of the N2 fixed by the symbiotic cyanobacteria (cyanobiont) is transferred to the host, which in turn supplies the cyanobiont with fixed carbon. LÄS MER
8. Postcolonial Nature Conservation and Collaboration in Urban Protected Areas : Everyday relations at Macassar Dunes/Wolfgat reserves, Cape Town, South Africa
Sammanfattning : Protected areas and nature conservation are profoundly shaped by Western ideas, and are embedded within powerful discourses and colonising practices. This thesis examines how colonialism and apartheid shape contemporary practices of nature conservation in Cape Town in South Africa - its institutions, geographies and peoples. LÄS MER
9. Stress responses of Arabidopsis plants with a varying level of non-photochemical quenching
Sammanfattning : When light energy input exceeds the capacity for photosynthesis the plant need to dissipate the excess energy and this is done through non-photo-chemical quenching (NPQ). Photochemical quenching (photosynthesis), NPQ and fluorescence are three alternative faiths of excited chlorophylls. PsbS associates to photosystem II and is involved in NPQ. LÄS MER
10. Do Non Player Characters dream of electric sheep? : A thesis about Players, NPCs, Immersion and Believability
Sammanfattning : This is a thesis that deals with the norms and rules of players playing online games together. It is also a thesis about believability, the current capabilities of non-player characters (NPCs) and the attitudes amongst game developers towards dynamic and systemic games AI. LÄS MER
