  1. 6. Vacuum-Assisted Closure Therapy - A new Treatment Modality in Poststernotomy Mediastinitis

    Författare :Ronny Gustafsson; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; Infektioner; Infections; Mortality; Lactate; Wound Healing; Respiration; Oxygenation; Circulation; Vacuum-assisted Closure; Mediastinitis; traumatology; Cardiac Surgery; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Poststernotomy mediastinitis is a devastating complication associated with median sternotomy, which occurs mainly after cardiac surgery. The optimal treatment is still controversial. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Wound Infection Following Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery : Risk Factors and the Experiences of Patients

    Författare :Christine Leo Swenne; Marianne Carlsson; Christina Lindholm; Jan Borowiec; Annika Ekbom Schnell; Hans Rutberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Caring sciences; coronary artery bypass graft; surgical wound infection; infection control; risk factor; blood glucose; postoperative; Saphenous vein harvesting; wound evaluation scale; mediastinitis; psychology; quality of life; Vårdvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aim was to register the incidence of surgical wound infections (SWI) in sternotomy and leg incisions and potential risk factors for SWI following coronary artery by-pass graft (CAGB) procedures. Patients’ perspectives of SWI and the subsequent treatment were also considered. Risk factors were registered for 374 patients. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Effects of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy on Perivascular Groin Infections after Vascular Surgery. Wound Healing, Cost-Effectiveness and Patient-Reported Outcome

    Författare :Christina Monsen; Vaskulära sjukdomar - kliniska studier; []
    Nyckelord :Negative Pressure Wound Therapy NPWT ; Vacuum Assisted Closure; Surgical site infections; Groin; Quality of Life; Pain; Resource use; Cost-effectiveness; Content Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) in the groin after vascular surgery is common and deep perivascular infection leads to long periods of hospitalization, sometimes to amputation and/or death. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is increasingly used for treating wounds such as deep perivascular groin infections after vascular surgery, but there is no scientific evidence supporting its benefit over traditional wound therapy. 4. 9. Local Collagen-Gentamicin for Prevention of Sternal Wound Infections

    Författare :Örjan Friberg; Rolf Svedjeholm; Jan Källman; Bo Söderquist; Bengt Gårdlund; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In cardiac surgery, sternal wound infection (SWI) continues to be one of the most serious postoperative complications. Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) have become the most common causative agents of SWI. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Connective tissue contraction in wound healing : An experimental study in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :M. Reza Ghassemifar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Contraction of connective tissue is an important part of tissue repair that reduces the wound space and helps to decrease the formation of scar tissue, both of which are needed to restore tissue integrity. In the present study, certain cellular mechanisms that are active during connective tissue contraction were assessed and the influence of transforming growth factor-. LÄS MER
