6. Interactions, initial states, and low-dimensional semiconductors
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with different aspects of quantum mechanical interactions. The first part of the thesis focuses on their effects in low-dimensional semiconductors; the second part on one of their applications: quantum algorithms, which utilize superpositions created from quantum mechanical interactions. 7. Spectroscopic studies of InGaAs/GaAs/A1GaAs quantum dots and wires
Sammanfattning : It is demonstrated that the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of single selfassembled lnAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) are very sensitive to excitation energy and crystal temperature, which is explained in terms of modulation of the effective diffusivity of the photogenerated carriers affecting the capture probability into theQD. This effect results in a population of the QD with excess electrons, and can be used as a simple tool to create and study charged exciton complexes. LÄS MER
8. Quantum and Ballistic Nanodevices
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, electron transport in quantum and ballistic devices was studied. The devices studied here were quantum wires, planar quantum dots, ballistic rectifiers, artificial functional materials, and three-terminal ballistic junctions. The possible application of such devices in the future nanoelectronics was also investigated. LÄS MER
9. Spectroscopic studies of III-V semiconductors in two, one and zero dimensions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, spectroscopic studies of quantum wells (QWs), quantum wires (QWRs) and quantum dots (QDs) in III-V semiconductors are presented. The electronic structure of these low-dimensional structures have been studied by absorption, photocurrent, electroreflectance, photoluminescence (PL), and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectroscopy. 10. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. LÄS MER
