1. Spin splitting in open quantum dots and related systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses electron spin phenomena in semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots from a computational perspective. In the first paper (paper I) we have studied spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. LÄS MER
2. Quantum transport and spin effects in lateral semiconductor nanostructures and graphene
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies electron spin phenomena in lateral semi-conductor quantum dots/anti-dots and electron conductance in graphene nanoribbons by numerical modelling. In paper I we have investigated spin-dependent transport through open quantum dots, i.e., dots strongly coupled to their leads, within the Hubbard model. LÄS MER
3. Charge-Spin Conversion and Electronic Transport in Two-Dimensional Materials and van der Waals Heterostructures
Sammanfattning : Applications related to artificial intelligence (AI), 5G communication, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT) will necessitate wide range of data collection, communication and processing. Current charge-based technology using conventional materials suffers adverse effects with down-scaling the device size and has limited efficiency in meeting the future demands for computation and data storage. 4. Spin momentum transfer effects for spintronic device applications
Sammanfattning : The recent discovery that a spin-polarized current can exert a large torque on a ferromagnet, through direct transfer of spin angular momentum, offers the possibility of electrical current controlled manipulation of magnetic moment in nanoscale magnetic device structures. This so-called spin torque effect holds great promise for two applications, namely, spin torque oscillators (STOs) for wireless communication and radar communication, and spin transfer torque RAM (STT-RAM) for data/information storage. 5. The Dynamical Spin Vector Evolution of the Asteroids
Sammanfattning : The dynamical evolution of the spin axis direction due to gravitational and thermal factors is examined. It is found that the spin axis variations generally are regular and relatively small for the bodies in the asteroid main belt. There are also reasons to believe that this is the case for minor objects beyond the main belt. LÄS MER
