21. Non-invasive imaging for improved cardiovascular diagnostics : Shear wave elastography, relative pressure estimation, and tomographic reconstruction
Sammanfattning : Throughout the last century, medical imaging has come to revolutionise the way we diagnose disease, and is today an indispensable part of virtually any clinical practice. In cardiovascular care imaging is extensively utilised, and the development of novel techniques promises refined diagnostic abilities: ultrasound elastography allows for constitutive tissue assessment, 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enables full-field flow mapping, and micro-Computed Tomography (CT) permits high-resolution imaging at pre-clinical level. 22. Space Weather Physics, Prediction and classification of solar wind structures and geomagnetic activity using artificial neural networks
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the application of artificial neural network techniques to space weather physics. The networks applied include multi-layer error-backpropagation, radial basis function, and self-organized maps. LÄS MER
23. Criticality and Frustration: Classical and Quantum Spin Models in Two Dimensions
Sammanfattning : We investigate two-dimensional spin models and begin with an introduction to critical phenomena with emphasis on classical systems with boundaries and conformal invariance. Then we introduce the antiferromagnetic quantum Heisenberg model with frustrating interactions. LÄS MER
24. Ground Monitoring using Resistivity Measurements in Glaciated Terrains
Sammanfattning : The most common method of monitoring and mapping groundwatercontaminants is to extract and analyse a number of groundwatersamples from wells in the investigation area. However, thereare a number of limitations with this type of point-wiseinvestigation, as it is hard to acquire an adequate picture ofa heterogeneous and anisotropic subsurface using a fewpoints. 25. Finite element methods for surface problems
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to further develop numerical methods for solving surface problems by utilizing tangential calculus and the trace finite element method. Direct computation on the surface is possible by the use of tangential calculus, in contrast to the classical approach of mapping 2D parametric surfaces to 3D surfaces by means of differential geometry operators.
