  1. 1. Waterborne Carbon in Northern Streams : Controls on dissolved carbon transport across sub-arctic Scandinavia

    Författare :Elin Jantze; Steve W. Lyon; Georgia Destouni; Helen Dahlke; Pirkko Kortelainen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dissolved carbon; DOC; DIC; TOC; sub-arctic; hydrology; Abisko; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Waterborne carbon (C) forms an active and significant part of the global C cycle, which is important in theArctic where greater temperature increases and variability are anticipated relative to the rest of the globe withpotential implications for the C cycle. Understanding and quantification of the current processes governing themovement of C by connecting terrestrial and marine systems is necessary to better estimate future changes ofwaterborne C. 2. 2. Dissolved organic carbon in tropical watersheds : Linking field observation and eco-hydrological modelling

    Författare :Fabien Rizinjirabake; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dissolved organic carbon DOC ; Rwanda; Land use land cover variability; Climate variability and change; Rukarara River Watershed; eco-hydrological modelling; field observation;

    Sammanfattning : Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a general description of the organic material dissolved in water. DOC is an important source of energy, carbon, and nutrient transfers from terrestrial to aquatic ecosystems. The export of DOC into aquatic ecosystems may contribute to the carbon balance of terrestrial ecosystems and to water degradation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Association of hydrophobic organic compounds to organic material in the soil system

    Författare :Silviu-Laurentiu Badea; Mats Tysklind; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HOCs; Organic Matter; Clay; DOM; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Contaminated soils and sediments have been identified as significant secondary sources of organic contaminants.  Leaching tests may be useful tools to estimate the mobility of contaminants via the water phase and thereby the risk for groundwater and surface water contamination. 4. 4. Water Quality in Swedish Lakes and Watercourses : Modeling the Intra-Annual Variability

    Författare :Julia Hytteborn; Kevin H. Bishop; Andreas C. Bryhn; Johan Temnerud; Bergström Ann-Kristin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Total organic carbon; cyanobacteria; seasonality; water quality modeling; climate change; surface water; Earth Science with specialization in Environmental Analysis; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Water quality is of great importance for ecosystems and society. This thesis characterized and modeled the variation in several key constituents of Swedish surface waters, with particular consideration given to intra-annual variability and sensitivity to climate change. 5. 5. Water quality modeling based on landscape analysis: importance of riparian hydrology

    Författare :Thomas Grabs; Jan Seibert; Kevin Bishop; Hjalmar Laudon; Brian McGlynn; Georgia Destouni; Irena Creed; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water quality model; terrain analysis; geographical information system GIS; riparian zone; total organic carbon TOC; boreal catchments; Hydrology; Hydrologi; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies in high-latitude catchments have demonstrated the importance of near-stream riparian zones as hydrogeochemical hotspots with a substantial influence on stream chemistry. An adequate representation of the spatial variability of riparian-zone processes and characteristics is the key for modeling spatio-temporal variations of stream-water quality. LÄS MER
