  1. 6. AMP-activated protein kinase in adipose tissue

    Författare :Franziska Kopietz; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AMPK; adipose tissue; adipocytes; diabetes; insulin; glucose uptake; lipolysis; FA synthesis; ADaM site activators;

    Sammanfattning : The AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a ubiquitously expressed kinase, which is activated in response to depletion of cellularenergy levels. Once active, it functions to alter cellular metabolism in a way that leads to restoration of energy levels. Therefore,AMPK is described as the key regulator of cellular energy homeostasis. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Modifying kraft pulping to produce a softwood pulp requiring less energy in tissue paper production

    Författare :Hafizur Rahman; Per Engstrand; Mikael E. Lindström; Louise Logenius; Peter Sandström; Ulf Germgård; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :Modifying kraft pulp; tissue dewatering; polysulfide; sodium borohydride; tensile index; hemicellulose;

    Sammanfattning : Modification of softwood kraft pulp by the addition of either polysulfide (PS) or sodium borohydride (NaBH4) has been shown to increase the pulp yield due to a higher retention of glucomannan.  The pulps with higher yield gave a paper with higher tensile index than reference pulp, especially at lower degrees of refining. 3. 8. Aspects of optimizing pulp fibre properties for tissue and packaging materials

    Författare :Hafizur Rahman; Armando Cordova; Per Engstrand; Börje Norlin; Göran Bengtsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : To improve the competitive advantages of pulp fibre-based materials for tissue and packaging over fossil-based products, it is essential to increase knowledge of the selectivity of the cooking and the chemimechanical processes by optimizing the unit operations of impregnation, cooking and refining. A general goal in pulping processes is to achieve as efficient and even fibre separation as possible. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Role of caveolin-1 in brown adipose tissue

    Författare :Charlotte L. Mattsson; Barbara Cannon; Paul Pilch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caveolin; brown adipose tissue; metabolism; signaling; Physiology; Fysiologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Caveolae are 50-100 nm invaginations in the plasma membrane. Caveolae and the protein caveolin-1 (Cav1) have been shown to be important in many signaling pathways in different cell types; however, in some cell types caveolae and Cav1 do not seem to affect the investigated signaling pathways. 5. 10. Hyaluronan Based Biomaterials with Imaging Capacity for Tissue Engineering

    Författare :Yu Zhang; Dmitri Ossipov; Carsten Werner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hyaluronan; hydrogel; scaffold; tissue engineering; imaging; interpenetrating network; MRI; fluorescence imaging; scaffold degradation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the preparation of hyaluronan-based biomaterials with imaging capability and their application as scaffolds in tissue engineering. First, we have synthesized HA derivatives functionalized with different chemoselective groups. LÄS MER
