11. Experimental study of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow
Sammanfattning : Rotating-disk flow has been investigated not only as a simple model of cross flow instability to compare with swept-wing flow but also for industrial flow applications with rotating configurations. However the exact nature of laminar-turbulent transi- tion on the rotating-disk flow is still major problem and further research is required for it to be fully understood, in particular, the laminar-turbulent transition process with absolute instability. 12. 231Pa, 230Th and 232Th as tracers of deep water circulation and particle transport : Insights from the Mediterranean Sea and the Arctic Ocean
Sammanfattning : The naturally occurring U and Th-series radionuclides have shown to have a considerable importance for the understanding of biogeochemical processes on Earth and in the ocean. In this thesis, the isotopes 230-thorium (230Th), 232-thorium (232Th) and 231-protactinium (231Pa) are used as tracers of the transport and scavenging of marine particles and water circulation. 13. Two Problems in non-linear PDE’s with Phase Transitions
Sammanfattning : This thesis is in the field of non-linear partial differential equations (PDE), focusing on problems which show some type of phase-transition. A single phase Hele-Shaw flow models a Newtoninan fluid which is being injected in the space between two narrowly separated parallel planes. LÄS MER
14. Making Doable Problems within Controversial Science : U.S. and Swedish Scientists’ Experience of Gene Transfer Research
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how scientists within the controversial scientific field of gene transfer make their research doable. Based on in-depth interviews with gene transfer scientists and key individuals from different regulatory agencies and advisory boards in Sweden and the U.S.A. LÄS MER
15. Non-linear Free Boundary Problems
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of an introduction and four research papers related to free boundary problems and systems of fully non-linear elliptic equations.Paper A and Paper B prove optimal regularity of solutions to general elliptic and parabolic free boundary problems, where the operators are fully non-linear and convex.
