16. Hydrogel-based pH-sensors : Development and characterisation of optical and electrical pH sensors based on stimuli-responsive hydrogels
Sammanfattning : The ability to measure the chemical parameter pH is of high importance in many areas. With new government regulations and evolving markets, there is a strong motivation for improving such measurements and conducting research on new types of pH sensors and sensor materials. LÄS MER
17. Theory and Applications of Coupling Based Intensity Modulated Fibre-Optic Sensors
Sammanfattning : Optical fibre sensors can be used to measure a wide variety of properties. In some cases they have replaced conventional electronic sensors due to their possibility of performing measurements in environments suffering from electromagnetic disturbance, or in harsh environments where electronics cannot survive. 18. A Case-Based Reasoning System for the Diagnosis of Individual Sensitivity to Stress in Psychophysiology
Sammanfattning : Increased stress is a continuing problem in our present world. Especiallynegative stress could cause serious health problems if it remainsundiagnosed/misdiagnosed and untreated. In the stress medicine, clinicians’measure blood pressure, ECG, finger temperature and breathing rate during anumber of exercises to diagnose stress-related disorders. LÄS MER
19. Applications of monolithic fiber interferometers and actively controlled fibers
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to develop applications of monolithic fiber devices and actively controlled fibers. A special twin-core fiber known as a ‘Gemini’ fiber was used to construct equal arm-length fiber interferometers, impervious to temperature and mechanical perturbations. LÄS MER
20. Microsystems Technology for Underwater Vehicle Applications
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis work has been to investigate how miniaturization, such as microsystems technology, can potentially increase the scientific throughput in exploration of hard-to-reach underwater environments, such as the subglacial lakes of Antarctica, or other challenging environments, including cave systems and wrecks. A number of instruments and subsystems applicable to miniature submersibles have been developed and studied, and their potential to provide a high functionality density for size-restricted exploration platforms has been assessed.
