  1. 41. Towards a Sustainable Resource Management : A Broader Systems Approach to Product Design and Waste Management

    Författare :Jagdeep Singh; Björn Frostell; William Hogland; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Resource Management; Product Design; Waste Management Challenges; Systems Thinking; Sustainability Science; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi; Resource Management; Product Design; Waste Management Challenges; Systems Thinking; Sustainability Science;

    Sammanfattning : Rapid economic growth, urbanisation and increasing population have caused (materially intensive) resource consumption to increase, and consequently the release of large amounts of waste to the environment. Numerous technological and operational approaches to resource management have been introduced throughout the system of production, consumption and waste management. LÄS MER

  2. 42. Learning System Thinking : The role of semiotic and cognitive resources

    Författare :Maria Larsson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; systems thinking; collaborative modeling; learning; external representations; cognition; semiotics; system dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : In the course of our educational life we are introduced to various subject areas, each with its specific way of representing knowledge. The challenge for the learner is to be able to think in ways that are supported by, and match, the representational format. A fundamental question for the science of learning concerns how this is achieved. LÄS MER

  3. 43. Simulation Modelling of a Shift to Service-Based Offerings : Resource efficiency and operational implications in the context of the circular economy

    Författare :Raphael Wasserbaur; Tomohiko Sakao; Erik Sundin; Steve Evans; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; resource efficiency; resource effectiveness; circular economy CE ; sociotechnical systems; systems thinking; simulation; product service system PSS ; system dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : The unsustainable levels of resource use and emissions of our economies and their threat to future generations are core issues of our time. The circular economy (CE) conceptualises a different type of economy that is restorative and regenerative by design and aims to keep products, components and materials at their highest utility and value at all times, distinguishing between technical and biological cycles. 4. 44. Profit-Orientation and Post-Growth Economies : Building Theory for Social-Ecological Resilience

    Författare :Jennifer Hinton; Sarah Cornell; Wijnand Boonstra; Somya Joshi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Systems thinking; Systems analysis; Post-growth economy; Degrowth; Sustainable economy; Sustainable business; Theory of the firm; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis takes a post-growth perspective in order to answer the overarching research question:  How does business profit-orientation affect social-ecological sustainability? It is the result of putting different pieces of the puzzle together - across the microeconomic and macroeconomic scales - in order to build a stronger conceptual and theoretical basis for sustainable post-growth economies.In Part 1, I describe what a post-growth perspective entails, as an inherently social-ecological systems approach. 5. 45. A normative application of multi-modal systems thinking to a non-viable social system

    Författare :Veronica D. de Raadt; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social Informatics; Informatik;

    Sammanfattning : This research evaluates how multi-modal systems thinking, a normative approach to systems science, answers to the theoretical, practical and ethical demands emerging from research in sustainability and to systems scientists concerned with the norms of life and ethics. The thesis starts with a broad survey of sustainability literature and concludes that this multi-modal systems methodology, which has emerged during the last decade, has a significant contribution to make.
