  1. 1. Sustainable management of dredged sediments : potential recovery of valuable compounds

    Författare :Laura Ferrans; William Hogland; Monica Odlare; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dredged sediments; nutrients; metals; speciation; recovery; characterisation; beneficial use; life cycle assessment; extraction; plant-growing substrate; circular economy; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Dredging of sediments occurs worldwide to increase water depth in harbours, bays, lakes and rivers, as well as to recover aquatic ecosystems. Landfilling and open-ocean discharge are traditional disposal routes for dredged material. However, the methods are restricted by environmental and legal concerns. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Treatment of Wastewater Generated by Wood-based Dry Industries : Advances Oxidation Processes & Electrocoagulation

    Författare :Henrik Hansson; William Hogland; Marcia Marques; Ollie Dahl; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Advanced oxidation processes; Electrocoagulation; Fenton; Industrial storm-water; Ozone; Respirometry assays; Wastewater; Wood floor industry.; Environmental Chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : Wood is a material with an enormous number of applications. For decades, the development of wastewater treatment technologies tailored for the wood sector has focused on those industries that have water as an integral part of the industrial production, such as paper and pulp. 3. 3. Risk of spontaneous fires at temporary storages sites for organic material, waste fuels and recyclables: Quantification and mitigation

    Författare :Muhammad Asim Ibrahim; William Hogland; Ghasem Najafpour; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; temporary storage; risk of fires; spontaneous ignition; biofuels; recyclables; waste fuels; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Economic and environmental constraints have created increasing demand for (material and energy recovery) and recycling of waste generated from households, commercial and industrial activities. A wide variety of materials waiting for sorting, recovery, recycling and disposal are stored at temporary storage sites (TSS) where physical, biotic and abiotic processes can lead the stored material to spontaneous ignition. 4. 4. Landfills and glass dumpsites as future bank accounts of resources : waste characterization and trace elements extraction

    Författare :Yahya Jani; William Hogland; Monica Odlare; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Landfill mining; metals extraction; glass dumpsites; hazardous waste; chemical extraction; reduction-melting; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental pollution and health threats as well as scarcity of raw materials, water, food and energy are among the main challenges our world are now facing. Simultaneously, landfills and open dumpsites still are the dominant global waste disposal option even with their long term environmental impacts in case of greenhouse gases and contaminated leachates. 5. 5. Removal of Inorganic Anionic Pollutants from Water using Adsorption Technology

    Författare :Eva Kumar; William Hogland; Marcia Marques; Mika Sillanpää; Kenneth M. Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water treatment; adsorption; inorganic anionic pollutants; granular ferric hydroxide GFH ; nano-alumina; adsorption isotherms; adsorption kinetics; modeling.; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science; Environmental technology; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the era of urbanization, industrialization and population growth, groundwater and drinking water sources are getting adversely polluted due to the addition of different toxic contaminants including inorganic anionic pollutants. The inorganic anions are of serious concern due to their adverse health effects on humans, even when present at very low concentrations in water. LÄS MER
