  1. 31. Susceptibility gene mapping in multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Bing He; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by relapsing or progressive demyelination of the central nervous system (CNS). Increasing evidence supports that genetic factors confer susceptibility to MS resulting in an unknown mode of inheritance as a complex trait. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Modeling genetic susceptibility to multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Helga Westerlind; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to investigate genetic and environmental factors and their role in the etiology of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) by using comprehensive registry data or novel computationally intense methods. To date, over 100 genes associated with MS have been identified, but how they interact in the risk for the disease is not yet fully understood. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Genetic factors influencing susceptibility to intracellular infections

    Författare :Fabio Sánchez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Genetic susceptibility; leprosy; leishmaniasis; HIV; quantitative trait locus; linkage analysis; multigenic; severity.;

    Sammanfattning : Genetics of susceptibility to infection is a complex trait in which many factors from the host, the parasite and the environment, interact to produce different clinical manifestations of disease. This thesis explores the relationship between the first infectious susceptibility gene ever cloned, SLC11A1 and the occurrence of intracellular infections (leprosy, leishmaniasis and HIV infection) in several populations of humans.
