  1. 1. Drug discovery against leishmaniasis : Bio- and chemoinformatic guided strategies for target evaluation and hit identification

    Författare :Elisabet Vikeved; UCM Alsmark; Christian Sköld; David Horn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Leishmaniasis; Drug discovery; Lateral gene transfer; Comparative genomics; Virtual screening; Target fishing; Marine natural products;

    Sammanfattning : Leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical disease mainly affecting poor people in developing countries. It is caused by infections of flagellated protozoa belonging to genus Leishmania. The few available drugs are associated with problems such as low effectiveness, severe side effects and resistance development. 3. 3. The Role of Zinc in Leishmaniasis and Tuberculosis

    Författare :Miguel Guzman; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :Cutaneous leishmaniasis; tuberculosis; zinc supplementation; lymphocytes; cell proliferation; INF-γ; CD4 CD8 ratio;

    Sammanfattning : The synergistic relation between nutritional deficiency and infection may have negative effects on the immune system, making individuals more vulnerable to infection. Zinc can affect the resistance to infections by modulating cytokine release, and by acting as a cofactor of thymulin, which induces the differentiation of immature T lymphocytes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The rough journey to access health care : the case of leishmaniasis in the Bolivian rainforest

    Författare :Daniel V. Eid Rodríguez; Miguel San Sebastián; Isabel Goicolea; Anna-Karin Hurtig; John Porter; Umeå universitet; []
