1. Exploring the interactome of EF-hand proteins
Sammanfattning : EF-hand proteins are central in many cellular processes being the main group of Ca2+-sensing and buffering proteins in the cell. In the work presented in this thesis we study ligand interactions of three EF-hand proteins; calmodulin, calbindin D28k and secretagogin. LÄS MER
2. Human Bone Marrow Microenvironment in Health and Disease
Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are safeguarded from various threats such as stress, injury, or radiationwithin specialized microenvironments or niches within the bone marrow. In this thesis, we investigatedvarious facets of the bone marrow (BM) microenvironment and its critical role in hematopoiesis andrelated disorders. LÄS MER
3. The role of estrogens and the microenvironment in lymphoma progression and drug sensitivity
Sammanfattning : Lymphomas are a group of cancers which originate from lymphatic cells. More than 90% of the lymphomas belong to the group of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), which in itself is a non-homogeneous group consisting of different NHL subtypes. Traditionally, lymphomas are not thought of as hormone-related cancers. LÄS MER
4. Soluble intercellular and vascular cell adhesion molecules-1 in lymphoid neoplasms : A clinical and prognostic study of Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and chronic B-lymphocytic leukaemia
Sammanfattning : The interaction of soluble adhesion molecules with adhesion ligands expressed by immunological cells interfere with the cell-cell adhesion essential for the signal transductions that initiate immunological responses. Preliminary data suggest that soluble adhesion molecules also promote angiogenesis. LÄS MER
5. The role of CD30 in atopic allergy
Sammanfattning : The 120 kDa CD30 molecule belongs to the tumour necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily and is expressed by activated lymphoid cells. Small populations of CD30+ cells have been detected in the peripheral lymphoid organs, as well as in the thymus. A subset of CD45RO+, so-called memory T cells, also express CD30 after various kind of stimuli. LÄS MER
