1. Traumatic high-load injuries in the adolescent spine. Clinical, radiological and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Disc degeneration and other radiological abnormalities are highly frequent among young athletes in sports with great demands on the back. It has also been reported that athletes with these abnormalities have more back pain than other athletes and non-athletes. LÄS MER
2. On the effect of repetitive loading on the spine of young elite athletes. Clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Introduction: The human spine is exposed to many different loads during daily activities and especially during sporting activities. The spine has different biomechanical properties during the lifetime and thereby responds differently to repetitive and sudden loads. LÄS MER
3. Asymmetric lateral loading of the human trunk
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to characterize the biomechanics and neuromuscular control of the human trunk in response to asymmetric lateral loading. The pulling force and strength capacities as well as muscle activation patterns, trunk kinematics and postural balance in relation to lateral trunk flexion and loading were given special consideration. 4. Static and Dynamic Load Response of the Lumbar Spine in Flexion
Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to develop experimental methods for static and dynamic loading of spinal segments in vitro that would simulate flexion-distraction injuries (lap seat-belt injuries) and increase knowledge about the biomechanical response and the mechanisms of injury of the lumbar spine under static and dynamic (transient) loads in flexion. The experiments were carried out on the lumbar functional spinal unit (FSU) consisting of two adjacent vertebrae, the intervertebral disc and all intervening ligaments. LÄS MER
5. Studies on sitting pressure and buttock microcirculation : aiming at developing an alarm in the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries
Sammanfattning : Pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries are a major problem, the prevalence in this group being reported as high as 20 – 30 percent. Most pressure ulcers develop around the pelvic girdle, and the key-contributing factor in the development of pressure ulcers is ischaemia due to longstanding pressure. LÄS MER
