1. Spinal cord repair strategies
Sammanfattning : Regeneration of long fiber tracts does not occur spontaneously in the adult mammalian brain or spinal cord. The present work is an attempt to develop a repair strategy that may overcome this lack of recovery and apply it to spinal cord injury. LÄS MER
2. Spinal cord injuries in Sweden : studies on clinical follow-ups
Sammanfattning : A spinal cord injury is a serious medical condition, often caused by a physical trauma. An injury to the spinal cord affects the neurotransmission between the brain and spinal cord segments below the level of injury. The SCI causes a loss of motor function, sensory function and autonomic regulation of the body, temporary or permanent. LÄS MER
3. Monoaminergic modulation in spinal reflex pathways from group I afferents
Sammanfattning : Serotonin and noradrenaline are known to play an important part in modulation of spinal neuronal networks. Group I muscle afferents mediate information on dynamic changes of muscle length and tension, and modulation of actions from these afferents could be of importance for the execution of movements. 4. Static and Dynamic Load Response of the Lumbar Spine in Flexion
Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to develop experimental methods for static and dynamic loading of spinal segments in vitro that would simulate flexion-distraction injuries (lap seat-belt injuries) and increase knowledge about the biomechanical response and the mechanisms of injury of the lumbar spine under static and dynamic (transient) loads in flexion. The experiments were carried out on the lumbar functional spinal unit (FSU) consisting of two adjacent vertebrae, the intervertebral disc and all intervening ligaments. LÄS MER
5. Functional Imaging of Spinal Locomotor Networks
Sammanfattning : Movement is necessary for the survival of most animals. The spinal cord contains neuronal networks that are capable of motor coordination and of producing different movements. In particular, a very reduced neuronal network in the spinal cord can produce simple rhythmic outputs even in the absence of descending or sensory inputs. LÄS MER
