1. Biomechanical analyses of flywheel resistance exercise : From a space- and ground-based perspective
Sammanfattning : Astronauts suffer degradation of postural muscles and weight-bearing bones during long-duration spaceflight. Resistance exercise is used as a primary countermeasure against these degradations. LÄS MER
2. Eccentric training in the treatment of tendinopathy
Sammanfattning : Chronic painful tendinopathies are common, not only in sports and recreationally active people, but also among people with a sedentary lifestyle. Both the lower and upper limbs are affected. There is lack of knowledge about the etiology and pathogenesis to tendinopathy, and many different treatments options have been presented. LÄS MER
3. On spinal mechanisms for reflex control in man : modulation of Ia-afferent excitation with changes in muscle length, activation level and fatigue
Sammanfattning : To control muscle force, neural activation has to take alterations in muscle mechanics into account. This thesis assesses modulations in excitatory efficacy of Ia-afferents during muscle length changes at different levels of voluntary activation and during fatigue. LÄS MER
4. Optics for Low Vision Enabling
Sammanfattning : For people with central visual field loss, eccentric vision is all that they have to rely on. Even for those who learn how to correctly utilize their eccentric vision, it will never be as good as the central for two entirely different reasons: the off-axis optics of the eye can result in large refractive errors, and the low function of the peripheral retina. 5. Chronic Tennis Elbow : Aspects on Pathogenesis and Treatment in a Soft Tissue Pain Condition
Sammanfattning : Objectives: To study the treatment practice of chronic tennis elbow (TE) among general practitioners (GPs) and physiotherapists (PTs), the effects of a simple, graded home exercise regime versus expectation, the effects of eccentric versus concentric exercise, and the involvement of the substance P – NK1 receptor system in the peripheral, painful tissue of chronic TE patients by positron emission tomography (PET). Materials and methods: A postal survey regarding therapeutic methods used in patients with chronic TE was sent to 129 GPs and 77 PTs, 81 subjects with chronic TE were randomly and blindly assigned to either an exercise group or a wait list group, 120 subjects were randomly assigned to either eccentric or concentric exercise and ten subjects were examined by PET and the NK1 specific radioligand [11C]GR205171.
