21. Mercerization and Enzymatic Pretreatment of Cellulose in Dissolving Pulps
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the preparation of chemically and/or enzymatically modified cellulose. This modification can be either irreversible or reversible. Irreversible modification is used to prepare cellulose derivatives as end products, whereas reversible modification is used to enhance solubility in the preparation of regenerated cellulose. LÄS MER
22. Drug absorption in the lungs : studies in the isolated perfused rat lung model combined with physiologically based biopharmaceutics modelling
Sammanfattning : Pulmonary delivery of drugs is the preferred route of administration for treatment of local lung diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Recently, there has also been increased interest in systemic delivery of drugs via the lungs to avoid problems with low and/or variable gastrointestinal absorption, and as a needle-free alternative for drugs that cannot be ingested. 23. Optimisation Challenges in Pressurised Hot Water Extraction of Polyphenols: Extraction and Degradation Kinetics
Sammanfattning : Pressurised hot water is an environmentally friendly alternative to hazardous organic solvents such as methanol and heptane. One of the many applications of using pressurised hot water extraction (PHWE) is to extract polyphenols from plants. The challenges in PHWE lies with the optimisation of extraction yield. LÄS MER
24. Solution Chemistry and Morphological Properties for Organic Solar Cells : Exploring Alternative Solvents Using Microgravity and Modelling as Tools
Sammanfattning : Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have the advantage of the accessibility of energy for all, due to facile and low-cost processing, with its low energy payback time compared to other technologies, therefore promising applications. Research and development have led to power conversion efficiencies of nearly 20% and now catching up to their inorganic counterparts. LÄS MER
25. Dissolution of cellulose for textile fibre applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis forms part of a project with the objective of developing and implementing a novel, wood-based, process for the industrial production of cellulose textile fibres. This new process should not only be cost effective but also have far less environmental impact then current processes. LÄS MER
