16. Endothelial dysfunction in patients with glucose abnormalities and coronary artery disease : studies of pathogenesis and treatment
Sammanfattning : Background: Type 2 diabetes is associated with endothelial dysfunction, which is characterised by the reduced bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO). This is a result of increased oxidative stress and inflammation and the synthesis of endothelium-dependent vasoconstricting factors such as endothelin-1 (ET-1) caused by hyperglycaemia, insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. 17. Hunting a Silent Killer. Biomolecular Approaches in Ovarian Cancer
Sammanfattning : Ovarian cancer is a heterogeneous disease and recent advances in improving patient outcome havebeen limited. It is estimated that a woman’s risk of developing ovarian cancer during her lifetime is about 1 in 70, making it a frequently occurring cancer type in women. LÄS MER
18. Quantitative cataract measurement with the Scheimpflug technique
Sammanfattning : Cataract is the most prevalent blinding eye disease. Scheimpflug photography is an objective method for documentation of lens nuclear opacity. Using the Scheimpflug slit-lamp technique, a photograph, in focus from the anterior surface of the cornea to the posterior surface of the lens, can be obtained. LÄS MER
19. Inflammatory proteins in the CNS-relation to Alzheimer's disease
Sammanfattning : Most neurodegenerative disorders are characterised by an inflammatory process in the brain. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the most common form of dementia in the elderly. Activated astrocytes and microglia surrounding the amyloid plaques represent evidence for neuroinflammation in the AD brain. LÄS MER
20. Rho-kinase signalling in systemic inflammatory responses
Sammanfattning : Endotoxemic liver injury is characterized by an initial release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and CXC chemokines, which leads to a recruitment of leukocytes to the liver microvasculature. The mechanisms of leukocyte recruitment are well characterized and comprise on the one hand a mechanical trapping of leukocytes in sinusoids, and on the other hand a multi-step process of leukocyte-endothelial cell interactions in postsinusoidal venules.
