1. Hormone replacement therapy : benefits and adverse effects
Sammanfattning : Background: Numerous studies have shown that estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) is an effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms, insomnia and vaginal dryness. Beneficial effects have also been shown on lipid patterns and on the incidence of osteoporotic fractures. LÄS MER
2. Hormone replacement therapy and effects on mood
Sammanfattning : Background: During the past 5 decades, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) has been used, and appreciated for its beneficial effects, by millions of women in their menopause. As treatment for climacteric symptoms, estrogen is outstanding, and effects on hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and insomnia have been widely documented. LÄS MER
3. Pharmacodynamic modeling of cardiovascular effects of Σb-antagonists and moxonidine : Special emphasis on tolerance and rebound effects
Sammanfattning : Pharmacodynamic (PD) modeling was used to characterize and quantify the short- and long-term changes in cardiovascular effects following treatment with β-antagonists or imidazoline receptor agonist moxonidine, in spontaneous hypertensive rats and patients with congestive heart failure, respectively. The complex cardiovascular system is regulated by several feedback mechanisms with different time domains and gains. LÄS MER
4. Optimal Sequential Decisions in Hidden-State Models
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis consists of five research articles on the general topic of optimal decision making under uncertainty in a Bayesian framework. The papers are preceded by three introductory chapters.Papers I and II are dedicated to the problem of finding an optimal stopping strategy to liquidate an asset with unknown drift. LÄS MER
5. Fatigue Life Prediction in Service - A Statistical Approach
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the problem of fatigue life prediction. The emphasis is on the development of simplified methods, intended to be used in engineering design and the starting point is the established methods for fatigue prediction in service, namely the Wöhler curve, the Paris´ law and the Palmgren-Miner law of cumulative damage.
