6. Interactions of satellite phage P4 with its helpers : P2 and WΦ phages
Sammanfattning : Bacteriophage P4 is a defective phage that needs a helper phage to grow lytically, since it lacks structural genes and genes encoding host cell lysis functions. P4 has the capacity to derepress the unrelated prophage P2, or its relatives after infection, thereby getting access to the late functions of the helper. LÄS MER
7. Prion processing and propagation in neuronal and dendritic cell culture models
Sammanfattning : Prion diseases are rare neurodegenerative diseases, associated with a conversion of a normal cellular protein, PrPC, into its misfolded and partial protease resistant isoform, PrPSc. These diseases affect both animals and humans and are unique since they can not only be genetic and sporadic, but also transmissible. LÄS MER
8. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) and Peripheral Nerve Regeneration
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its possible role as a neurotrophic factor. I have investigated the effect of VEGF on neurons in culture but also in vivo, following a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve, and following nerve repair. LÄS MER
9. Reaction and Diffusion Phenomena in Biomimetic Nanoscale Reactors and Networks
Sammanfattning : Methods for construction of geometrically complex, fully connected surface-immobilized microscopic networks of phospholipid bilayer vesicles (1-50 µm in diameter) interconnected by lipid nanotubes (100-300 nm in diameter), have been developed. The networks have controlled connectivity and are well-defined with regard to the container size, content, angle between nanotube extensions, and nanotube length. LÄS MER
10. Contracting muscle for regeneration : myogenic dedifferentiation in limb progenitor cell formation
Sammanfattning : The urodele amphibians, such as newts and axolotls, are unique among vertebrates since they regenerate their limbs, tail, jaws and part of their heart and CNS as adults. After amputation of a newt limb, regeneration proceeds by the reversal of differentiation of tissues in the limb stump. LÄS MER
