  1. 6. Sedation during mechanical ventilation in intensive care - Sedation practices and patients' memories, stressful experiences and psychological distress

    Författare :Karin Samuelson; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive care unit; Mechanical ventilation; Patient comfort; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; intensivvård; Anestesiologi; Sedation; Respiratory nursing;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe and determine intensive care sedation in adult mechanically ventilated patients with the emphasis on patients? memory, stressful experiences and psychological distress. The results are based on a nationwide postal survey (Paper I) including 89 Swedish intensive care units (ICUs) followed by a prospective cohort study (Papers II?IV) conducted over 18 months in 2 ICUs including 313 mechanically ventilated adults admitted for more than 24 hours. 2. 7. Early ventilatory management and lung function in the immature newly born. Experimental studies in lambs

    Författare :Jonas Ingimarsson; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; newborn.; animals; lung recruitment; resuscitation; respiratory distress syndrome; pulmonary surfactants;

    Sammanfattning : Using an animal model, the thesis explores how the initial ventilation of the lungs, and surfactant therapy, should best be managed after premature birth. Material and measurements: The studies were made in newborn lambs delivered by cesarean section. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Premedication for intubation in newborn infants; pain assessment, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

    Författare :Elisabeth Norman; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Premedication; pain; premature; newborn; aEEG; randomized controlled trial; thiopental; morphine; remifentanil; rapid sequence induction; ibntubation; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Preterm infants undergo intensive care during a vulnerable period with hemodynamic instability and a rapidly developing and immature CNS. Adequate pain management is essential, since pain experience might lead to acute physiological reactions as well as neurological and neuropsychological sequels. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth

    Författare :Lars Björklund; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiration; Artificial; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Respiratory Function Tests; Pulmonary Surfactants; Newborn; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Infant; Premature; Animals;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout. 5. 10. Long-term follow-up of very low birthweight children : A prospective study from the southeast region of Sweden

    Författare :Per-Olof Gäddlin; Ingemar Leijon; Orvar Finnström; Torstein Vik; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Very low birthweight infants; Follow-up studies; Adolescence; Gender; Neonatal risk factors; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Cognitive function; School performance; Health; Quality of Life; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The survival rates for very low birthweight (VLBW; birthweight ≤1500 g) children are increasing, but they run a greater risk than controls of developing neurosensory disabilities and other functional problems during childhood. However, there is a great need for more knowledge regarding long-term outcome to adulthood in VLBW subjects. LÄS MER
