  1. 1. Lupus Nephritis – Genetic Impact on Clinical Phenotypes, Disease Severity and Renal Outcome

    Författare :Karin Bolin; Gunnel Nordmark; Lars Rönnblom; Inger Gjertsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; Nephritis; Lupus Nephritis; Genetics; STAT4; BANK1; C1q Deficiency; Renal Insufficiency; End-Stage Renal Disease; Sex Differences; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that can affect every organ system. Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the more serious SLE manifestations. Whilst the genetic background of SLE has been thoroughly investigated, less is known about the background of LN. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Affective disorders and their treatments : implications for thyroid function

    Författare :Ingrid Lieber; Ursula Werneke; Michael Ott; Mats Eliasson; John McGrath; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bipolar disorder; affective disorder; lithium; thyroid dysfunction; hyperthyroidism; hypothyroidism; Delphi-consensus; psykiatri; Psychiatry;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundThe relationship between affective disorders, mood-stabilisers and thyroid dysfunction is complex and poorly understood. Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction can overlap with symptoms of affective disorder, destabilise mood, and impact physical health. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis : analyses of candidate genes involved in immune functions, for susceptibility and severity

    Författare :Martin Johansson; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Ingrid Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SLE; RA; oestrogen; renal disorder; ESR1; PDCD1; PTPN22; association; severity; Rheumatology; Reumatologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune rheumatic disease with systemic manifestations characterized by auto-antibodies directed against different parts of the cell nucleus including DNA, histones and ribosomes. The systemic inflammation can cause damage to multiple organs, e.g., kidneys, skin, heart, lungs and the nervous system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Potentially inappropriate drug treatment among older people with cognitive impairment

    Författare :Eva Sönnerstam; Maria Gustafsson; Maria Sjölander; Hugo Lövheim; Ylva Böttiger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Older people; major neurocognitive disorder; cognitive impairment; potentially inappropriate medications; drug-drug interactions; renal function; adverse drug reactions; nursing homes; time trends; Clinical Pharmacology; klinisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The aging process contributes to alterations in organ systems, which lead to an increased risk for chronic conditions. Drug treatment is an important strategy in the management of chronic conditions; however, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic alterations contribute to increased sensitivity to drug effects. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Sympathetic function in cardiac disorders.Upon cardio-renal sympathetic activity and effects of nitroglycerin in human heart failure

    Författare :Magnus Petersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :heart failure; renovascular hypertension; sympathetic nervous system; noradrenaline; mortality; renal circulation; cardiovascular physiology; baroreflex; nitroglycerin;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores pathophysiological mechanisms and prognostic implications of sympathetic activation in patients with atherosclerotic renovascular hypertension (RVH) and with chronic heart failure (CHF). Hitherto, it is unknown whether cardiac sympathetic activation is present in patients with RVH, the presence of which could relate to the increased cardiovascular mortality observed in this disorder.
