16. The Role of Kidney Oxygen Homeostasis for the Development of Kidney Disease
Sammanfattning : The relation between oxygen supply and demand determines tissue oxygen tension (PO2). When intrarenal tissue PO2 decreases, any compensatory increase in oxygen supply via increased renal blood flow is likely to increase glomerular filtration rate. LÄS MER
17. Fibroblast growth factor-23 and Klotho in bone/mineral and parathyroid disorders
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) is a novel, bone-produced hormone that regulates renal phosphate (Pi) reabsorption and calcitriol metabolism. Disorders of mineral and bone metabolism, such as autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets (ADHR) and hyperostosis-hyperphosphatemia syndrome (HHS), witness the importance of well-balanced serum levels of FGF23. 18. Pathomechanism of diabetic nephropathy
Sammanfattning : Diabetic nephropathy is today the most common cause of end stage renal failure. The risk for developing overt diabetic nephropathy is considerably reduced by antihypertensive treatment, and adequate control of blood glucose. However, there is a need for additional and even more efficient tools to prevent this complication of diabetes. LÄS MER
19. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder
Sammanfattning : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 20. Astrophysical probes of axionlike particles
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to the search for new fundamental physics in the form of axionlike particles (ALPs). ALPs are relatively light and feebly interacting particles that are part of many theories extending the Standard Model of particle physics, e.g. LÄS MER
