16. Intestinal preservation for transplantation: translational approaches
Sammanfattning : Background: Intestinal preservation injury (IPI) may result in various degrees of mucosal damage, which may later favor bacterial translocation, post-reperfusion syndrome, and upregulation of alloreactivity. Experimental evidence suggests that combining vascular perfusion and cold storage with luminal interventions using polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions may mitigate the mucosal damage and extend the safe storage time. 17. Drug Eluting Hydrogels : Design, Synthesis and Evaluation
Sammanfattning : Hydrogels have successfully proved themselves useful for drug delivery applications and several delivery routes have been developed over the years. The particular interest in this work was to design, synthesise and evaluate in situ forming drug eluting hydrogels, which have the potential to ameliorate the healing of cardiovascular diseases. 18. Development and Evaluation of Lipodisks Intended for Use as Biomimetic Membranes and Drug Carriers
Sammanfattning : Polyethylene glycol-stabilized lipodisks have emerged as a novel type of lipid-based nanoparticles with high potential as both drug carriers and biomimetic membranes. In this thesis we assess both of these applications, and show how the properties of the lipodisks can be further developed and optimized. LÄS MER
19. Physico-Chemical Investigations of, and Characterization of Model Membranes for, Lipid-Peptide Interactions
Sammanfattning : The main focus of this thesis is on the effects caused by α-helical peptides on liposome structure, the impact of cholesterol on the peptide-membrane interactions, and the effect of aggregate curvature on the peptide affinity. Results of the studies show that the membrane destabilizing effect of the cationic α-helical peptide melittin is modulated by cholesterol. LÄS MER
20. Colloidal interactions and arrested dynamics of cellulose nanofibrils
Sammanfattning : Over the past decades, concerns for the environment have increased and efforts to achieve a sustainable society have intensified. One particular challenge is to replace fossil-based plastics with biodegradable materials produced from renewable resources. LÄS MER
