16. Platelets and eosinophils in lung tissue remodelling
Sammanfattning : Tissue injury and inflammation followed by effective repair restores normal function, but defective repair with associated tissue remodelling and fibrosis can lead to loss of organ function. Thus, interactions between inflammatory and mesenchymal cells in connection with the remodelling processes are of considerable importance with regards to the development of pulmonary disorders, since this interplay determines the outcome of the disease. 17. In vivo imaging of leukocyte-endothelium interactions in septic lung injury
Sammanfattning : Excessive accumulation of leukocytes in the lung represents a key feature in the development of an acute lung injury (ALI). Numerous studies demonstrated that leukocyte rolling is a compulsory precondition for the firm adhesion in organs. However, it seems that the recruitment process of leukocytes in the lung is more complex. LÄS MER
18. Signaling mechanisms in Streptococcal M1 proteininduced inflammation and injury in the lung
Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes of the M1 serotype is frequently associated with severe streptococcal infections. Acute lung injury is recognized as a key component in the pathophysiology of streptococcal M1 proteininduced inflammation. LÄS MER
19. Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion. Proinflammatory response and organ dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Intestinal I/R is considered to be an important initiating event in several pathophysiological conditions such as trauma, bleeding, sepsis and pancreatitis, frequently leading to concomitant both single and potentially multiple organ dysfunction. The purpose of this thesis was to study mechanims underlying the development of multiple organ dysfunction, with special focus on intercellular proinflammatory regulation in the concurrent development of tissue injury. 20. Effects of PDGF-B gene inactivation in endothelial cell
Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factor-B (PDGF-B) is expressed by endothelial cells, neurons, macrophages and platelets. The relative importance of these cellular PDGF-B sources in vivo has been addressed by the creation of a conditional PDGF-B allele, which in the presence of a specific recombinase can be silenced in different tissues.
