1. Utilization of Decomposition Techniques for Analyzing and Characterizing Flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the utilization of two different decomposition techniques, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD), for enhanced understanding of flow structures and their stability. The advantages of these techniques are shown for a range of flow situations, most of which are turbulent. LÄS MER
2. Specification Decomposition and Formal Behavior Generation in Multi-Robot Systems
Sammanfattning : While autonomous robot systems are becoming increasingly common, their usage is still mostly limited to rather simple tasks. This primarily results from the need for manually programming the execution plans of the robots. Instead, as shown in this thesis, their behavior can be automatically generated from a given goal specification. LÄS MER
3. Future stratospheric ozone depletion will affect a subarctic dwarf shrub ecosystem
Sammanfattning : The stratospheric ozone depletion and the concomitant increase in ultraviolet-B (UV-B, 280-320 nm) radiation is of global concern due to the effects of UV-B on living organisms. To investigate the effects of increased levels of UV-B, a field irradiation system was established at a subarctic dwarf shrub heath in Northern Sweden (68 °N). LÄS MER
4. A song of ice and mud : Interactions of microbes with roots, fauna and carbon in warming permafrost-affected soils
Sammanfattning : Permafrost-affected soils store a large quantity of soil organic matter (SOM) – ca. half of worldwide soil carbon – and currently undergo rapid and severe warming due to climate change. LÄS MER
5. Soil Organic Matter Dynamics and Methane Fluxes at the Forest – Tundra Ecotone in Fennoscandia
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results from several studies that have focused on the carbon and nutrient dynamics in soils at the forest – tundra ecotone in Fennoscandia. The main objectives of the study were: (i) to investigate the links between the physical environment, above-ground vegetation communities, soil carbon storage, nutrient status and the chemical composition of the soil organic matter (SOM), and (ii) to quantify trace gas fluxes (methane and carbon dioxide) between mesic soils and the atmosphere.
