1. Integrated geophysical-geochemical methods for archaeological prospecting
Sammanfattning : A great number of field measurements with different methods and instruments were conducted in attempts to develop a method for an optimal combination of various geochemical and geophysical methods in archaeological prospecting. The research presented in this thesis focuses on a study of how different anthropogenic changes in the ground can be detected by geochemical and geophysical mapping and how the results can be presented. 2. Geometrical controls on spectral induced polarization in time and frequency domain
Sammanfattning : What can we learn by transmitting electrical currents through electrodes in the ground? Geophysical methods can help us to locate the bedrock, valuable mineral ores, remains of ancient buildings and many other secrets hiding below the surface. However, it is not only the universal interest for the unknown that drives the geophysical research forward. LÄS MER
3. Distributed thermal response tests : New insights on U-pipe and Coaxial heat exchangers in groundwater-filled boreholes
Sammanfattning : U-pipe Borehole Heat Exchangers (BHE) are widely used today in ground source heating and cooling systems in spite of their less than optimal performance. This thesis provides a better understanding on the function of U-pipe BHEs and Investigates alternative methods to reduce the temperature difference between the circulating fluid and the borehole wall, including one thermosyphon and three different types of coaxial BHEs. 4. Physical properties of coarse particles in till coupled to bedrock composition based on new 3D image analysis method
Sammanfattning : The physical properties of the coarse fraction of the till (0.4 to 20 cm) and the surface boulders have been studied at two different sites in Sweden. LÄS MER
5. Water in roads: Flow paths and pollutant spread
Sammanfattning : For better road construction and maintenance while minimising damage to the environment and groundwater, it is essential to monitor and model hydrological impacts on roads and consider pollution of groundwater. Water content in unbound material in road layers changes continuously and water flow usually occurs along pathways that are the main corridors for pollutant spread to groundwater. LÄS MER
