1. Investigation of [N-X-N]+ and [N-C-N]+ complexes in solution : Exploring Geometry, Stability and Symmetry
Sammanfattning : Halogen bonding is a weak interaction. In this thesis the three center four electron halogen bond, [N−X−N]+, has been studied. The lighter halogens form highly unstable halonium ions that are reactive towards nucleophiles and their complexes were therefore investigated at low temperatures. LÄS MER
2. The rough journey to access health care : the case of leishmaniasis in the Bolivian rainforest
Sammanfattning : Background: Leishmaniasis is a parasitic infectious disease transmitted by vectors that cause three main clinical syndromes: cutaneous (CL), mucosal (ML), and visceral (VL). Since VL is not relevant to this thesis, only CL and ML will be further discussed. LÄS MER
3. Analysis of organic and inorganic arsenicals in biological material
Sammanfattning : An analytical method for measurement of the urinary metabolites of inorganic arsenic is presented. Increased concentrations of urinary metabolites of inorganic arsenic are indicative of occupational exposure. Organoarsenic compounds in the urine from seafood intake do not affect the analytical results. LÄS MER
4. Bioactive leishmanicidal alkaloid molecules from Galipea longiflora Krause with immunomodulatory activity
Sammanfattning : According to WHO, leishmaniasis is endemic in 98 countries, and has been placed ninth in a global analysis of infectious diseases. Treatment of leishmaniasis is based on pentavalent antimonials but toxicity and developing resistance have been reported. LÄS MER
5. Cutaneous leishmaniasis : treatment and genetic mechanisms affecting outcome
Sammanfattning : Leishmaniasis is a neglected parasitic disease and a rare diagnosis in non-endemic countries in Europe. Migration, geopolitical conflicts and climate change have increased awareness of this infection in Europe, as more patients with leishmaniasis are admitted to health care. LÄS MER
