26. Peace by repatriation : Concepts, cases, and conditions
Sammanfattning : The focus of this study is the assumption that the return of refugees is a necessary condition for the establishment of sustainable peace after armed conflict. This assumption is often made in the peacebuilding literature as well as by policy makers, but it has rarely been the object of systematic analysis. LÄS MER
27. Making Room for Peace : Challenging Intractable Conflict Through Tourism
Sammanfattning : Grounded in an understanding of tourism as a political phenomenon that has consequential impacts on how we understand people and space, and in an understanding of peacebuilding as a participatory process that must involve ordinary citizens, this thesis explores the relationship between tourism and peace. Taking inspiration from the confidence of global organisations and tourism scholars that tourism has a role in peacebuilding, I explore how tourism could serve to challenge conflicts that are deemed intractable - conflicts that are particularly hard to solve. 28. Normative Encounters between the ‘Global’ and the ‘Local’: : Women, Peace and Security in Mali and Rwanda
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the multiple and often overlapping encounters between ‘global’ and ‘local’ norms, actors, practices, and discourses which take place when norms travel between different socio-political contexts. This is done through a study of how global gender equality norms embedded in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda are promoted in two war to peace transitions: Mali and Rwanda. LÄS MER
29. Neutrality in Internal Armed Conflicts : Experiences at the Grassroots Level in Colombia
Sammanfattning : Civilians in situations of armed conflict are not exclusively victims or fence-sitters, but engage in a wide array of strategies along the spectrum from passivity to activity. Nevertheless, the privileged focus on eliteled processes has neglected peacebuilding efforts at the grassroots level, despite their increased saliency in internal armed conflicts and their potential impact on their regulation and/or transformation. 30. Video letters, mediation and (proper) distance : A qualitative study of international development communication in practice
Sammanfattning : This study scrutinizes the trajectory of an international development communication intervention aimed at mediating, rendering public and mobilizing processes of reconnection among estranged citizens across the former Yugoslavia. The intervention, which took place between 2000 and 2005 in the wider context of post-conflict international development assistance and peacebuilding operations in the region, was known as the Videoletters project.
