  1. 16. Calciumhomeostasis and Vitamin D in Obesity and Preeclampsia

    Författare :Hella Hultin; Per Hellman; Ylva Pernow; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Calcium homeostasis; vitamin D; preeclampsia; obesity; parathyroid hormone; Endocrine surgery; Endokrin kirurgi; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Normal physiological functioning is highly dependent of calcium and the concentration range is very narrow. Normal calcium levels are so crucial to survival that the body will de-mineralize bone if the levels are insufficient. A prerequisite for normal calcium uptake is a normal Vitamin D level. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Studies related to bone mass in patients with cystic fibrosis

    Författare :Eva Gronowitz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :DXA; infection; lung function; parathyroid hormone; physical activity; vitamin D; ; pQCT; UVB;

    Sammanfattning : Cystic fibrosis is the most common genetic disease that causes respiratory failure and earlydeath. The lifespan of these patients has gradually increased due to improved generaltreatment, but concurrent with this, new complications have emerged, and changes in bonemineral density (BMD) have been stressed as a major problem. 3. 18. Bone mineral density in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Susanne Schmidt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone mineral density; inflammatory bowel disease; children; Crohn s disease; ulcerative colitis; vitamin D; parathyroid hormone; familial resemblance; body composition; growth;

    Sammanfattning : Low bone mineral density (BMD) has been highlighted as a potential problem in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases in the westernized world. The mechanisms behind reduced BMD in pediatric IBD are still not completely understood, but several factors that influence bone mineralization have been discussed. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Hypoparathyroidism after thyroid surgery- rates, risks, prevention and consequences

    Författare :Matilda Annebäck; Olov Norlén; Peter Stålberg; Jakob Hedberg; Erik Nordenström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thyroidectomy; hypoparathyroidism; hypocalcemia; parathyroid hormone; vitamin D; health-related quality of life; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoparathyroidism is the most common complication after thyroid surgery and associated with short- and long-term consequences. The lack of a consensus on the definition of hypoparathyroidism has led to a broad range in the rates reported in the literature. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Cellular mechanisms involved in bone resorption

    Författare :Ulf Lerner; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Bone resorption. cyclic AMP; parathyroid hormone; prostaglandins; la OH D3; lysosomal enzyme release; osteoclast; periodontitis; rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : The effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH), prostaglandins (PGE1, PGE2, PGF2a), cAMP, cAMP-analogues, phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors and la (OH) D3 on bone resorption and associated cellular process have been studied in a bone organ culture system using half- calvaria from 6-7 day-old mice. Bone resorption was assessed by determining the release of calcium (Ca2+), inorganic phosphate (Pi) and 45Ca from the calvarial bones to the culture media. LÄS MER
