1. Olfactory genomics of bark- and ambrosia beetles : Evolution and function of chemoreceptors
Sammanfattning : Insect behaviours, such as host and mate selection, are often mediated by chemical cues. The chemical cuesare detected by large and rapidly evolving families of chemoreceptors which include odorant receptors (ORs),gustatory receptors (GRs) and ionotropic receptors (IRs). LÄS MER
2. Processing of the amyloid precursor protein and its paralogues amyloid precursor-like proteins 1 and 2
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder which is histopathologically characterised by amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Amyloid plaques consist of the amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) that can form aggregates in the brain. Aβ is generated from the amyloid precursor protein (APP) through proteolytic cleavage. LÄS MER
3. Hypoxia inducible factor 1alpha : molecular mechanisms of regulation
Sammanfattning : Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1alpha (HIF-1alpha) is an important protein in the homeostatic control of genes in response to low oxygen, or hypoxia. It is thus also a key factor in the regulation of angiogenesis in response to hypoxia, including induction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene expression. LÄS MER
4. Disentangling the Reticulate History of Polyploids in Silene (Caryophyllaceae)
Sammanfattning : DNA sequences from the rps16 intron and the psbE-petL spacer from the chloroplast genome, the ribosomal nuclear ITS region, and introns from the low copy nuclear genes RPA2, RPB2, RPD2a and RPD2b, are in different combinations used to infer phylogenetic relationships in Sileneae (Caryophyllaceae). Used in concert, the biparentally inherited nuclear regions are useful to distinguish between paralogy due to allopolyploidy and single gene duplications, respectively, because the latter are not expected to give rise to repeated phylogenetic patterns in potentially unlinked sequence regions. 5. Identification of molecular markers associated with fungal resistance in Norway spruce and common ash
Sammanfattning : Trees are giants of the forests, possessing nutrient-rich tissues that make them natural targets for pathogens. In Europe, the fungal pathogens Heterobasidion annosum s.l. and Hymenoscyphus fraxineus are associated with Norway spruce and common ash, respectively. LÄS MER
