1. Processing of the amyloid precursor protein and its paralogues amyloid precursor-like proteins 1 and 2
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder which is histopathologically characterised by amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Amyloid plaques consist of the amyloid β-peptide (Aβ) that can form aggregates in the brain. Aβ is generated from the amyloid precursor protein (APP) through proteolytic cleavage. LÄS MER
2. New neurons and astrocytes in the adult brain. Studies on adult rat neural progenitors in vivo and in vitro with special reference to the effects of IGF-I and CNTF regarding proliferation and lineage determination
Sammanfattning : The hippocampal dentate gyrus in several species, including man, continues to produce new neurons and glial cells in adulthood. The generation of new neurons and glial cells in the adult hippocampus is under strict regulation. Two major events of significance for cell genesis from progenitor cells are proliferation and lineage determination. LÄS MER
3. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB
Sammanfattning : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 4. Signal transduction pathways involved in PDGF receptor-induced cellular responses
Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), is a potent connective tissue cell mitogen and chemoattractant which binds to two structurally related receptors denoted PDGF α- and β- receptors. Upon binding of PDGF to the receptor, signaling molecules containing Src Homology 2 (SH2) domains are recruited to the activated receptor and mediate propagation of the signal. LÄS MER
5. Melanophore signaling : regulation and application
Sammanfattning : Melanophores are pigment-containing cells responsible for quick physiological color changes in lower vertebrates due to redistribution of melanosomes, pigment granules. We have studied melanophores from African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis. LÄS MER
