  1. 1. Regulation of human macrophage gene expression by oxidized low density lipoprotein. Studies on tumor necrosis factor-a and global gene expression profiles

    Detta är en avhandling från Göteborg

    Författare :Mikael C. O. Englund; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2001]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; macrophage; gene expression; TNF-a; oxidized LDL; oxysterol; transcription factor; microarray;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial and progressive disease that is characterized by a focal thickening of the arteries caused by accumulation of lipoproteins, extracellular matrix, and the migration and proliferation of various cell types. Among the cells found in atherosclerotic lesions are macrophages, which accumulate lipids and are transformed into foam cells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Oxysterol receptors LXRs and coregulators in cholesterol metabolism and inflammatory transrepression pathways

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Biosciences and Nutrition

    Författare :Tomas Jakobsson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2011]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The LXRs are important sensors and regulators of cholesterol homeostasis in several metabolic tissues including liver, intestine and macrophages. They regulate target genes involved in cholesterol-, lipid- and carbohydrat metabolism. Recently, the LXRs have emerged as important regulators of the innate and adaptive immune system and inflammation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on the oxysterol receptor LXRβ: linking cholesterol metabolism to water transport and cell proliferation

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Biosciences and Nutrition

    Författare :Chiara Gabbi; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2011]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Liver X Receptor β (LXRβ) is a nuclear receptor, belonging to the superfamily of ligand-activated transcription factors. With its α isoform (LXRα), LXRβ shares more than 78% homology in its amino acid sequence, a common profile of oxysterol ligands and the heterodimerization partner, Retinoid X Receptor. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the possible use of oxysterols for the diagnosis and evaluation of patients with neurological and neurodegenerative diseases

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Laboratory Medicine

    Författare :Valerio Leoni; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2005]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Multiple sclerosis; Alzheimer s disease; oxysterol; central nervous system; gas chromatography-mass spectrometry; blood brain barrier; cholesterol;

    Sammanfattning : Oxysterols are monooxygenated derivatives of cholesterol with a unique ability to pass lipophilic membranes and are involved in a number of elimination pathways for cholesterol. One of the major oxysterols in the circulation, 24S-hydroxycholesterol, is formed exclusively in the brain, mainly in neuronal cells. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of lipid oxidation on transcriptional regulation and cell death

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, false

    Författare :Mikko Ares; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [1998]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; low density lipoprotein; lipid oxidation; nuclear factor-KB; activator protein-1; Iysophosphatidylcholine; tumor necrosis factor-alpha; oxysterol; Ca2 ; apoptosis; lipid accumulation;

    Sammanfattning : Elevated levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL) in plasma are associated with an increased risk for atherosclerosis. Excessive accumulation of lipoproteins and lipids in the vascular wall is thought to lead to the development of advanced atherosclerotic lesions prone to rupture. LÄS MER
