  1. 6. Brain cholesterol metabolism : a study of mouse and man

    Författare :Maura Heverin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s Disease; 27-hydroxycholesterol; CYP46A1; cholesterol homeostasis.;

    Sammanfattning : The brain is the most cholesterol rich organ in the body and contains about one quarter of the body's total cholesterol. How this cholesterol and its metabolism affects the complex brain under normal and pathological conditions has been the focus of intense research in recent years due to its possible association with the development or progression of neurodegeneration. 2. 7. Studies on oxysterols : origins, properties and roles

    Författare :Steve Meaney; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cytochrome P-450; oxysterols; cholesterol homeostasis;

    Sammanfattning : Oxysterols are derivatives of cholesterol present at low concentrations in a variety of physiological compartments. The major oxysterols in human circulation are formed from pools of cholesterol that may be distinguished by their miscibility with plasma cholesterol. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Steroid-Metabolizing Cytochrome P450 (CYP) Enzymes in the Maintenance of Cholesterol and Sex Hormone Levels

    Författare :Hanna Pettersson; Maria Norlin; Kjell Wikvall; Paolo Parini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CYP27A1; CYP7B1; cytochrome P450; estrogen receptor; androgen receptor; cholesterol; sex hormone; hydroxylation; steroid metabolism; regulation of steroid levels; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The enzymes CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and perform catalytic reactions in cholesterol homeostasis and endocrine signaling. We have investigated the metabolism of a synthetic oxysterol. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Innate lymphoid cells and cholesterol metabolism in intestinal barrier function

    Författare :Sara Martina Parigi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa represents one of the largest barrier sites of our body, having to withstand a constant exposure to a plethora of environmental insults (including dietary compounds, xenobiotics, metabolites and microorganisms). While our body has evolved tolerance/ignorance towards some of these factors deemed beneficial for the host, it requires constant maintenance of epithelial barrier integrity and ability to mount pro-inflammatory responses to protect against potentially harmful environmental insults. 5. 10. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in the Metabolism of Cholesterol and Cholesterol Derivatives

    Författare :Maria Norlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cholesterol is metabolized to a variety of important biological products in the body including bile acids and vitamin D. The present investigation is focused on enzymes that catalyze 7α-hydroxylation or 27-hydroxylation in the metabolism of cholesterol, oxysterols (side chain-hydroxylated derivatives of cholesterol) and vitamin D3.
