1. Studies on nucleoside H-phosphonoselenoate chemistry and chalcogen exchange reaction between P(V) and P(III) compounds
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the chemistry of compounds containing P-Se bonds has been studied. As a new addition to this class of compounds, H-phosphonoselenoate monoesters, have been introduced and two synthetic pathways for their preparation have been developed. LÄS MER
2. Synthesis and investigation of bacterial effector molecules
Sammanfattning : During infections, bacterial microorganisms initiate profound interactions with mammalian host cells. Usually defense mechanisms of the host destroy intruding bacteria in rapid manner. However, many bacterial pathogens have evolved in a way to avoid these mechanisms. LÄS MER
3. Towards synthesis of biologically important phosphate analogues : exploring H-phosphonate and C-phosphonate chemistry
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on studies directed towards the development of methods for the preparation of phosphorus containing natural products, with the focus on C-phosphonate nucleic acid analogues.Mechanistic studies concerning formation of the phosphorus-carbon bond resulted in development of two efficient protocols for the synthesis of C-phosphonates from the corresponding H-phosphonate derivatives. 4. Nucleoside phosphoramidates and related compounds : development of synthetic methods based on H-phosphonate chemistry
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies directed towards development of new synthetic methods for the preparation of nucleotide analogues of potential medical value as antisense, antigene or antiviral agents, are described. Two methods for synthesis of N3'->P5' and P3'->N5' phosphoramidate analogues with the nitrogen atom in bridging position of the internucleotide linkage was developed. 5. Modeling DNA Damage
Sammanfattning : In this thesis methods of computational chemistry have been used to examine DNA damaging processes initiated by ionizing radiation, free radicals, or Low-Energy Electrons (LEE). The computational chemistry method based on quantum mechanics that has been mainly used here is the Density Functional Theory (DFT). LÄS MER
