Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the mechanics in two nanosized system. Paper I investigates a size effect in a cantilever nanowire affecting its resonance frequency. Paper II reveals a threshold field for the formation of a mound by the diffusion of surface atoms on a substrate under a STM-tip. LÄS MER
- Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Department of Zoology, Stockholm University
Sammanfattning : The evolution of the vertebrate brain has remained a topic of intense interest from biologists over many decades. Evolutionary biologists have seen it as an intriguing example of how the size and structure of a trait evolves across large phylogenies and under body size constraints, with both large shifts in deep evolutionary time and continuous smaller scale adaptation. Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the performance of high-frequency mechanical impact (HFMI) treatment for implementation on new bridge designs. Fatigue strength improvement with HFMI can enable lightweight design of bridges and allow the utilisation of the benefits of high-strength steels. LÄS MER
5. Stability and sorption capacity of montmorillonite colloids Investigation of size fractional differences and effects of γ-irradiationDetta är en avhandling från Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Sammanfattning : Bentonite clay is intended to form one of the barriers in most repositories of spent nuclear fuel located in granite. One important function of the bentonite barrier is to retard transport of radionuclides in the event of waste canister failure. Bentonite has a high sorption capacity of cations and its main constituent is montmorillonite. LÄS MER
