  1. 36. Modeling rating curves from close-range remote sensing data : Application of laser and acoustic ranging instruments for capturing stream channel topography

    Författare :Norris Lam; Steve W. Lyon; Jason W. Kean; Ida Westerberg; Helle Skånes; James Brasington; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; laser scanning; acoustic Doppler current profiler; hydraulic modeling; rating curves; Sweden; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : A rating curve provides a functional relationship between water height (i.e. stage) and discharge at a specified cross-section in a river. Used in combination with a time series of stage, rating curves become one of the central components for generating continuous records of streamflow. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Northern Permafrost Region Soil Carbon Dynamics since the Last Glacial Maximum : a terrestrial component in the glacial to interglacial carbon cycle

    Författare :Amelie Lindgren; Gustaf Hugelius; Peter Kuhry; Fortunat Joos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soil organic carbon; Permafrost; Peat; Loess; Vegetation; Biome reconstruction; Last Glacial Maximum; Deglaciation; Glacial-interglacial cycle; Carbon cycle; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : At the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), after ~100,000 years of relatively cold temperatures and progressively lower atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations, CO2 levels reached ~180 ppm, which is less than half of what we see today in a much warmer world (~400 ppm). Although much of this increase since the LGM is due to human-induced emissions, about 100 ppm of this increase can be attributed to natural variations seen over glacial to interglacial cycles. 3. 38. Small remnant habitats : Important structures in fragmented landscapes

    Författare :Jessica Lindgren; Sara Cousins; Regina Lindborg; Adam Kimberley; Ove Eriksson; Hans Henrik Bruun; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alpha-diversity; Beta-diversity; Biological pest control; Canopy cover; Connectivity; Ecosystem function; Fleshy fruits; Forest edge; Forest management; Forest specialist species; Fragmentation; Functional diversity; Gamma-diversity; Grassland specialist species; Green infrastructure; Habitat amount hypothesis; Island biogeography; Midfield islets; Plant diversity; Plant-pollinator interaction; Pollination; Remnant habitat; Seed predation; Small habitats; Species richness; Structural heterogeneity; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : The world-wide intensification of agriculture has led to a decline in species richness due to land use change, isolation, and fragmentation of natural and semi-natural habitats in agricultural and forestry landscapes. As a consequence, there is a current landscape management focus on the importance of green infrastructure to mitigate biodiversity decline and preserve ecosystem functions e. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Sustainable agriculture : From global challenges to local land management

    Författare :John Livsey; Stefano Manzoni; Steve Lyon; Esteban Jobbágy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agriculture; irrigation; nutrients; soil properties; water management; fertilisation; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the success of agriculture management practices in increasing the availability of food needed to meet the requirements of the expanding global population, there are increasing demands placed on the resources on which the sector depends. Opportunities for the development of agricultural systems are constrained by increasing competition, from other sectors, for shared resources. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Towards co-management of Gialova Lagoon : A Natura 2000 coastal wetland in Messinia, Greece

    Författare :Georgios Maneas; Håkan Berg; Stefano Manzoni; Ernsteins Raimonds; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Salinity; wetland restoration; ecosystem services; participatory modelling; social-ecological system; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : The management of Natura 2000 sites is considered as the cornerstone for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity within Europe. However, protected ecosystems provide a plethora of benefits to local societies, and support the local economy. LÄS MER
